What is Venous Duplex Doppler Ultrasound to assess varicose veins?
A non-invasive diagnostic procedure which is performed to assess venous insufficiency in varicose veins in the legs.  Varicose veins are large rope-like veins in the legs.  The valves in the deep, as well as the superficial venous systems are evaluated for incompetence.

Your procedure will be done on the first floor of the Indiana Heart Physicians medical office building at 5330 East Stop 11 Rd., Indianapolis, IN 46237.

What happens before the procedure?
You will be made comfortable in one of our vascular exam rooms.  A pertinent medical history will by obtained by the vascular sonographer.  You will be asked to remove the appropriate clothing for the exam.  You  will be given a patient gown to wear and a sheet or blanket for warmth.

What happens during the procedure?
You will lie down for the procedure.  An ultrasound conductivity gel will be applied to your skin and an  ultrasound probe will be placed against your skin.  All appropriate images and measurements will be obtained.

How long will the procedure take?
It will take 45-60 minutes to perform the exam.

What happens after the procedure?
You will be permitted to get dressed and leave without any restrictions.
